How Riptide ULV Works

Riptide Waterbased Pyrethrin ULV contains 5% pyrethrins, a natural active ingredient which is derived from chrysanthemum flowers. Pyrethrins attack an insect’s central nervous system, resulting in paralysis and eventual death. The high concentration of pyrethrins in Riptide provides incredibly rapid knockdown of target pests with no worry of resistance, making Riptide an excellent flushing agent to repel pests out of hiding places and away from areas such as dry goods storage areas. Pyrethrins attack target pests on contact, then decompose rapidly in the environment. This means Riptide is harsh on pests but extremely gentle around humans and mammals, allowing it to be approved for use in an extremely wide range of locations.

Riptide also contains Piperonly Butoxide, a chemical synergist designed to keep pyrethrins stable and allow for even quicker knockdown, meaning less active ingredient is needed to kill target pests. (Piperonyl butoxide has no insecticidal properties on its own.)

Riptide is most commonly applied using misting or fogging equipment, and insects sprayed directly are killed on contact. Riptide is a contact kill only; it does not have any residual effect after it is dry.

Target Uses of Riptide Insecticide

Riptide is one of the most popular choices for automatic misting systems to control Mosquitoes, Flies, etc. Riptide can be used indoors and outdoors and it will not leave an oily residue, as it does not contain any oil. Riptide kills biting insects including ticks, mosquitoes and flies. Riptide is also cost effective compared to other pyrethrin sprays.

Riptide can also be used as a ULV or space spray, contact spray, around home foundations, dried fruit product storage areas, stored food areas, on peanuts, nuts, beans, seeds in bulk, bags or other packaging, in federally inspected meat and poultry plants, stored grains, on animals, treatment of outdoor annoyance pests and more. **Please read product label for application instructions and safety precautions.**

Riptide is very effective for controlling flying and crawling insects including mosquitoes, biting flies, cockroaches, moths, beetles, ticks, weevils, mealworms, gnats, pillbugs, silverfish, spiders, wasps, waterbugs, yellow jackets, ants and more.

ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Pyrethrins 5.0%, Piperonyl butoxide (synergist) 25%

Riptide Application Instructions

Riptide is a water-based concentrate that can be used undiluted or diluted in a variety of equipment, but it is particularly designed for use in Ultra Low Volume (ULV) foggers and automatic misting systems. Application instructions vary depending on the target pest and area treated. See below for details. Always read the product label completely before use.

Yield varies greatly by use. Use one half gallon bottle with water in a 55 gallon drum for outdoor misting systems. At a rate of 1 fl. oz. undiluted per 1,000 cubic feet of space, each half gallon bottle treats approximately 64,000 cubic feet when fogging indoors.

Standard Application Dilution rates / Mixing Ratios for Riptide:

*Undiluted – Indoors - appropriate for many uses at a rate of ½ to 1 fl. oz. per 1,000 cubic feet of space – maximum strength and fastest knockdown

*Undiluted – Outdoors - use with a ULV spraying device at a rate of 5 fluid ounces per minute

*Diluted – Indoors – 1 part concentrate into 1 to 10 parts water; apply at the rate of 1 to 2 fluid ounces per 1,000 cubic feet of space

*1 to 3 fl. oz./gal. of water – surface spray indoors; 1 gallon of finished solution per 750 square feet

*2 fl. oz./gal. of water - outdoor applications around house foundations; control of pests on shrubs, fruit and shade trees

*On cattle and horses – 1 part concentrate with 49 parts water – mix well and apply a light mist

*On poultry – 1 part concentrate with 25 parts water – spray roosts, walls, nests or cages and birds with a fine mist

*Other animals – 2 fl. oz. or less per adult animal – varies with target pest

*Automatic ULV Spraying Systems – mix ½ gallon (64 fl. oz.) of concentrate in 55 gallons of water

Indoors, Undiluted-

Use in aerosol generators to kill exposed and accessible stages of many varieties of flies, moths, stored product pests, and crawling pests. Close room and shut off all air conditioning or ventilating equipment. Apply at the rate of ½ to 1 fluid ounce concentrate per 1,000 cubic feet of space. Direct spray towards ceiling and upper corners of room. Leave room closed for ½ hour and ventilate thoroughly before re-entry. See product label for specific pest and location applications.

Indoors, Diluted-

For use in mechanical fogging or spraying equipment to control accessible stages of a variety of stored product pests, crawling pests, and flying insects. Close room and shut off all air conditioning or ventilating equipment. Dilute at the rate of 1 part concentrate into 1 to 10 parts water and mix well. Apply at the rate of 1 to 2 fluid ounces per 1,000 cubic feet of space, filling the room with mist. Vacate treated area and ventilate before re-entry. See Dilution Table for ULV Foggers on product label.

Federally Inspected Meat and Poultry Plants – Dilute 1 part concentrate with 4 parts water and use with a ULV spraying device at the rate of one fluid ounce per 1,000 cubic feet of room space. Use as a space spray only when plant is not in operation. Repeat as necessary but not more than once per day. Do not reapply within 1 day.

Surface Spray – To control accessible stages of cockroaches, silverfish, beetles, and crickets: Dilute 1 to 3 ounces of concentrate with one gallon of water, mix well and apply as a coarse wetting spray using approximately 1 gallon of spray mixture per 750 square feet of surface. To ensure maximum control of listed crawling insects, spray thoroughly into all cracks, molding, crevices, walls, floors and surfaces of bins, storage and handling areas.

Outdoors-

Automatic ULV spraying systems – Mix ½ gallon (64 oz.) concentrate in 55 gallons of water to yield a solution of 0.046% Pyrethrins and 0.23% Piperonyl Butoxide. When filling tank, partially fill the system reservoir with water, add concentrate, and then fill the rest of the tank with water. Nozzles should be rated for a delivery rate not to exceed 1.25 fl. oz. of solution per minute, with one nozzle covering 100 square feet. For best performance, spray solution should be in the pH range of 5.5 to 7.0. Automatic systems must be programmed so as not to activate and/or release pesticides when people, pets, and food or feed are present.

Flying Insects – If possible, space spray application should be made in the evening or early morning when mosquitoes are typically most active. With a ULV spraying device, spray at a dosage rate of 5 fluid ounces of undiluted concentrate per minute.
