How Zenprox EC Works

Zenprox EC is a liquid insecticide concentrate with the active ingredients Etofenprox and Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO). Etofenprox is a synthetic pyrethroid ether that attacks an insect’s central nervous system. Because most pyrethroids are esters, Etofenprox is especially effective when resistance may be a concern, such as when treating for bed bugs. Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO) has no insecticidal properties of its own, rather it acts as a synergist to keep insecticides stable and to add an extra punch to the killing power of active ingredients.

Zenprox EC has a non-repellent effect, and it quickly kills insects that are contacted directly with the spray or that come into contact with treated areas shortly after an application. Zenprox EC is not designed to have a long residual like many synthetic pyrethroid concentrates.

Target Insects

INSECTS CONTROLLED: Ants, Bed Bugs, Carpet beetles, Cockroaches, Confused flour beetles, Centipedes, Crickets, Darkling beetles, Dermestids, Earwigs, Firebrats, Flies, Fleas, Fruit flies, Gnats, Indian meal moths, Lesser grain borers, Millipedes, Mosquitoes, Moths, Pillbugs, Red flour beetles, Sawtoothed grain beetles, Scorpions, Silverfish, Sowbugs, Spiders (Brown recluse, Black widow, others), Stink Bugs, Ticks, Wasps

Target Uses

Zenprox EC effectively kills listed pests when applied as a broadcast, spot, or crack and crevice treatment indoors in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Zenprox EC is one of the few concentrates labeled for use as a broadcast spray indoors for fleas. (Mix with an IGR such as Precor IGR for the most effective flea treatments).

Zenprox EC is also an excellent choice for treatments when pyrethroid resistance is a concern, such as when treating for cockroaches and bed bugs. Zenprox EC is conveniently labeled for use in many sensitive areas such as hospitals, nursing homes, day cares, and schools (follow specific treatment guidelines).

Zenprox has a residual effect of 3-4 days after the treatment dries, so retreatments may be necessary after 14 days. Zenprox EC is designed to kill on contact to treat existing infestations rather than to provide long-term prevention.

Application Instructions

Mixing Directions: Zenprox EC mixes easily with water and may be applied with most application equipment. For best results, partially fill sprayer with water, add the labeled amount of Zenprox EC and fill to the required amount of water. Diluted spray mixture may be stored overnight and used the following day, but mixture should be agitated well prior to use.

Tank Mixing: Zenprox EC can be mixed with EPA-registered insect growth regulators (IGRs) in areas where these products are registered to be applied. Use the more stringent label directions when using multiple products.

Repeat treatments to infested areas as necessary, but not less than 14 days after initial treatment.

  • Each 16 oz. (pint) bottle of concentrate yields 8 gallons of finished solution.

Standard Application Dilution Rates / Mixing Ratios:

2 fl. oz./gal. of water – 0.25% - all applications

Use 1 gallon of finished solution per 1,000 sq. ft.

For use in the following areas:

Indoors

Broadcast/General Surface Treatments: Use a coarse, low pressure fan spray to apply the dilution uniformly over surfaces to be treated. Apply to carpets, floors, cabinets, cove base, and other areas where pests are located.

Spot or Crack and Crevice Treatments: Use a coarse, low pressure spray or pin stream. Treat entry points such as around water pipes, doors, windows, and eaves. Treat areas where pests normally feed or hide such as baseboards, corners, around water pipes, cracks and crevices. Spot treat floor rugs, beneath furniture, in closets, and storage areas.

Bed Bugs: Disassemble the bed frame and remove bedding. Do not apply product to bedding. Wash bedding and dry using medium to high heat to kill bed bugs.

Use a coarse, low-pressure spray to apply to the bed frame, mattress and box spring. Application to mattresses and box springs is intended for treatment of seams, edges, and tufts only. Do not saturate the mattress and box spring. Do not treat the entire surface of the mattress or box spring. Allow spray to dry before using the mattress and/or box spring.

Spot treat baseboards, behind pictures/wall hangings, rugs, and other articles in the bedroom or sleeping area. Not recommended as the sole protection against bed bugs.
